Tencent Cloud discounts & reseller pricing
Term locks the unit price, channel tier decides the rebate — strongest on live and gaming
Tencent Cloud has no customer tier. What changes your effective rate is how you buy: - Annual billing — pay for one, two or three years upfront; the unit price falls with the term, and it is non-refundable - Reserved instances — commit to a resource level for a discount, at a finer granularity than annual billing - Spot instances — spare capacity at the lowest price, reclaimable; only for interruptible work All three trade term or interruptibility for price. So why are resellers cheaper? On the procurement side: a top-tier reseller buys through Tencent Cloud's partner programme at wholesale plus rebate and passes part of that through. The programme has five levels (Registered / Silver / Gold / 50K+ Gold / 5M+ Platinum) — the higher the tier, the better the terms. As a top-tier reseller across five major clouds, our overall billing quote typically runs 30–50% below official direct pricing, tiered by volume: smaller commitments land nearer the 30% end, while stable usage with a clear commitment period can get close to 50% off. Where Tencent Cloud differs is what it is good at. If your workload is live streaming, VOD, real-time audio and video, multiplayer gaming, or a mini-program backend, its overseas node quality and media pipeline are usually less trouble than equivalently priced alternatives — and that is when negotiating a rate makes sense. For an ordinary web service, the five clouds are not far apart; which one you pick has more to do with how easy the account is to open and how easily you can pay.
Specs & pricing
| What decides your rate | Weight | Why it matters | What to bring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly spend | Largest | Sets how much of the reseller commitment your account represents | Last 3 months of real bills |
| Purchase term | High | Annual billing is where Tencent Cloud's discount lives, and channel pricing follows it | How stable your workload is for the next 1–3 years |
| Product breadth | Medium | CVM alone versus CVM plus COS, live and CDN through one channel are different positions | Which products you actually use |
| Settlement method | Medium | Prepay and monthly carry different cost and risk, so they price differently | Your preferred settlement and invoicing |
Why the official site has no discount but a reseller does
Tencent Cloud's official discounts are three, and all act on the usage side: - Annual billing — the longer the term, the lower the unit price; non-refundable - Reserved instances — commit to a resource level for a discount, at finer granularity than annual billing; good for stable, fixed-spec workloads - Spot instances — spare capacity at the lowest price, reclaimable; only for batch and offline work that tolerates interruption They restructure the *usage* side of "unit price × usage = bill", not the unit price. A reseller acts on the unit price. Tencent Cloud's partner programme has five levels: | Tier | Roughly | |---|---| | Registered | Sign-up only; almost no discount authority | | Silver | Basic revenue thresholds; access to a dedicated offer channel | | Gold | Requires sustained sales and certifications | | 50K+ Gold | A higher-threshold Gold tier | | 5M+ Platinum | Top tier; an order of magnitude above Gold | A top-tier reseller sits at the highest level, buys at wholesale plus rebate, and passes part of that through. The margin comes from procurement scale and partner tier — not from an identity or a privilege. That is also why no honest reseller advertises a flat "X% off regardless of spend" — that would mean paying out of pocket.
Four variables decide your rate
Four variables are enough to judge where you would land — the table above is the same thing compressed: 1. Monthly spend — the largest factor. The bigger your share of the reseller's committed volume, the more room there is. 2. Purchase term — annual billing is where Tencent Cloud's discount lives, so a stable workload that can sign a longer term has a clearer conversation on the channel side too. 3. Product breadth — CVM alone versus CVM plus COS, live streaming and CDN through one channel are different negotiating positions. 4. Settlement method — prepay, monthly and corporate transfer carry different cost and risk, so they price differently. ## One boundary we will not talk around At low monthly spend, the available margin may not cover the extra communication and settlement overhead. In that case going direct is genuinely simpler. We will not recommend a plan that does not pay for itself just to close a deal. The test is simple: what you save has to clearly exceed the time and process you add.
Card-free setup: what actually happens
Tencent Cloud International is close to Alibaba Cloud International on setup friction, and it comes down to three things: 1. A phone number outside mainland China is required for verification 2. Card binding frequently trips risk control, especially when registration and payment details disagree 3. Some resources start at a low default quota (GPU types, live concurrency), which needs a support ticket A channel handles the first two outright and pushes the third along. Concretely: the account is opened under a business entity that has already passed Tencent Cloud verification, and the bill is settled centrally — so you provide no personal card and no identity documents. You order in the official console and pay us on the agreed terms. Nothing in that chain "bypasses" verification; we carry the verification and settlement responsibility for the setup step.
Getting set up: four steps
- Tell us the use case and rough volume — scenario (live, gaming, site, backend), main regions, approximate monthly spend. This step sets the quote.
- Get the plan and the rate — discount level, settlement cycle, and whether this route is right for you. If it is not, we will say so.
- Open the account, or connect the one you already have — including card-free payment configuration. Existing accounts keep their resources and settings.
- Top up on your own and settle per plan — 24/7 top-ups credited instantly; renegotiate when your volume changes tier.
When you should not use a reseller
This is not politeness. Recommending a plan that does not pay off costs far more in refunds and reputation than the order is worth. We would rather you use us where it fits and go direct where it does not.
- You already have a corporate account and can buy direct — with an existing enterprise account and dedicated ops, direct purchase is smoother.
- Your spend is small and occasional — the margin will not cover the extra communication and settlement overhead.
- Compliance requires a direct contract — some industries require Tencent Cloud itself as the contracting party.
- You are only testing an idea — for short-term validation, pay-as-you-go is the right entry point.
- Your workload is not media or gaming — for a plain web service the five clouds are not far apart, and how easy the account is to open matters more than the rate.
The three routes side by side
Read the same table from another angle: what we replace is not Tencent Cloud, but the job of handling overseas setup and payment yourself. If your team already has a non-mainland number, an international card and ops capacity, direct purchase has no downside.
| Tencent Cloud direct | Typical top-up platform | Us | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | List price, no discount | Floating discount, mostly hard bargaining | Discount based on committed volume; monthly or prepay |
| Setup | Non-mainland number required; card binding trips risk control | Usually still needs ID and a card | No personal card, no identity documents |
| Quota | Low by default on some resources; ticket required | Usually not handled | We file the quota increase for you |
| Settlement | Card charged in real time | Prepay then consume; you track the balance | Self-service top-up, instant credit, renegotiable as volume changes |
| Best for | Teams with an overseas number, card and ops | One-off small purchases | Teams without overseas payment rails but with steady usage |

Each provider runs its own billing system, so there is no ready-made unified view. Most people reach for a tool first, which reverses the order: unify the cost categories and the tagging scheme first. Four accounting mismatches will make the numbers disagree.
